Mimco presents...

Inspired by the muses who wear and shape Mimco.

In this series, we sit down with our community of style icons — exploring their inspirations, the evolution of their style, and how Mimco fits into their ever-evolving journey of bold, beautiful self-expression.

Welcome to Five Minutes With.

Now the Managing Director of Fitted for Work, following on from a decade-long tenure as the not-for-profit organisation’s CEO, Donna de Zwart deeply understands the transformative impact of employment on individuals, families, and the economy. And further, how the right clothing can meaningfully contribute to empowering a person at the beginning of their job seeking journey.

This month, we’re incredibly proud to be partnering with Fitted for Work for the launch of our very first Archive Store. For every pre-loved Mimco bag sold at the one-day-only pop up, we will donate one new Mimco bag to Fitted for Work, helping to outfit women and non-binary job seekers experiencing disadvantage as they enter or re-enter the workforce.

In the lead up to this amazing collaboration, we were extremely excited to pin Donna down for a quick chat about her own sense of style, diving deeper into the key pieces in her wardrobe that feel like the truest expression of her fabulous self. Here’s what we learned from our five minutes with Donna de Zwart.

How would you describe your personal style?

I would describe my style as modern vintage. I love pieces that feel feminine without being overly girlish, polished without being too formal, and timeless with just the right amount of glamour. I'm drawn to clothing and accessories that have a sense of presence and individuality. When I'm shopping, I always ask myself three questions: Is it beautiful? Does it have presence? Is there something interesting about it? Whether it's an unexpected detail, a distinctive silhouette or a beautiful finish, I love pieces that tell a story and feel a little special.

Who are your style icons or inspirations?

My style inspirations span both classic and contemporary icons. I've always admired Katherine Hepburn for her confidence and effortless tailoring, and Audrey Hepburn for her timeless elegance and refined femininity. More recently, I'm inspired by women like Emma Stone, Dakota Johnson and Cate Blanchett, who each have a distinctive personal style and aren't afraid to take thoughtful fashion risks. What they all have in common is a sense of authenticity. Their clothes never wear them; instead, their style feels like a true extension of who they are.

What are your current favourite Mimco pieces?

Two pieces I keep coming back to are the Garden Bracelet and the Metro Mini Tote in Pink Dust. The Garden Bracelet feels both modern and nostalgic, which perfectly aligns with my love of vintage-inspired accessories. The Metro Mini Tote is practical but still makes a statement, and the Pink Dust colour adds a softness that works beautifully with both neutral and more tailored looks. They're the kind of pieces that instantly elevate an outfit and make getting dressed feel a little more exciting.

What's your top styling tip for incorporating pieces from these collections into everyday wear?

Don't save beautiful accessories for special occasions. Some of the best style moments happen on ordinary days. I love incorporating statement pieces into my daily wardrobe, whether that's a striking bracelet, a bold handbag or a pair of standout earrings. These pieces bring personality, glamour and a sense of fun to even the simplest outfit. Fashion should be enjoyed, and sometimes the quickest way to transform your look is by wearing the accessory you've been waiting for the "right" moment to use.

Is there a current trend you're particularly loving?

I'm really enjoying the resurgence of brooches. I've been collecting them for years as beautiful objects and tiny works of art, but it's exciting to see them having a fashion moment again. What I love most is their versatility. A brooch can completely change the look of a blazer, knitwear, a handbag or even a simple white shirt. They bring personality and individuality to an outfit, and they're a wonderful way to incorporate vintage pieces into a contemporary wardrobe.

How do you stay up to date with fashion trends?

I'm fortunate to work with professional stylists who constantly introduce me to new ideas, silhouettes and ways of dressing. They're a wonderful source of inspiration and often encourage me to experiment with trends I might not have considered otherwise. I also keep extensive Pinterest boards where I save ideas, colour combinations and looks that resonate with me. And while they're becoming increasingly rare, I still love spending time with a beautifully produced fashion magazine. There's something inspiring about seeing trends curated through an editorial lens rather than simply scrolling through them online.

What are the three essential accessories in your wardrobe?

A beautiful handbag, a pair of stylish pumps and great earrings are my three non-negotiables. A handbag is often the finishing touch that brings an outfit together and reflects personal style. Pumps add polish and confidence, whether I'm heading to a meeting or an event. And earrings are my favourite way to add personality to a look. Even when I'm dressed simply, the right pair of earrings can make me feel instantly put together and elevate the entire outfit.

When you think of Mimco, what's the first word that comes to mind? What do you love most about the brand?

The first word that comes to mind is "polished." What I love most about Mimco is that it combines sophistication with a sense of playfulness and boldness. The designs feel thoughtful and distinctive, allowing you to express your personality while still feeling refined. Mimco pieces have a way of making everyday dressing feel more creative and confident. It's a brand that isn't afraid to stand out, and it encourages me to do the same.
